Our hubris will be our undoing. I can't believe that cells multiplying on a "spongy scaffold" will become a common food and I can't buy lungs anywhere. I think it is fine, but for one thing. Labeling. The US meat industry must claim their names, right down to the cut. A shmeat product should not call itself a burger, since burgers must be made of beef. (same with the turkey burger people!). You cant have a chicken porterhouse, how can you have a shmeat porterhouse? This is about welshing off of someone else's cultural branding (just look how the EU gets on its wine, cheese, ect). If they can crack down on this, they can crack down on those soy turkey and turkey bacon guys too. If your turkey bacon is not made from turkey belly, its not turkey bacon! Forget taste, we cant even get our terminology right around here. PS Just read the article, and I must say, being a microbiologist I found it very interesting. I think it is fine, but for one thing. You cant fake meat, and good beans are great food! The question is, what is the best way to oppose this kind of stuff? I will do what I can form my humble blog, facebook, ect. Who do I need to write (have people write) in congress to counter act PETAs lobbyists? Dario, you are right! Pasta fagioli should be the food of the future. Chris, you're exactly right. Children from a very young age will be even more distanced from where their food comes from. The only positive thing from this science could possibly be the cloning of human organ tissue for transplantation.
